ABC, Wordful, and Watch Me Wednesday ~ A Triple Threat and a Double Feature

Today is the letter E

E is for Enchantingly Elusive Eden

My lovely third child is my most willing helper, especially when I am making cakes and brownies. I always use my special spoon for batters and Eden helps me stir then claims the spoon as her reward.

When she is not helping me bake, hand out snacks, set the table, or make a list (pretend of course) then she is making little piles of toys or blankets or fish crackers to use some other time. She is a little chipmunk and likes to hide things away for later use. When asked about what she is doing she will simply say, "I will put this away for when I need it, 'K Mommy." Then she smiles and laughs at the confused look on my face and I have no choice but to smile back.

She is one of those kids that has a knack, when she is quiet, to completely disappear off of the mom radar. Often times while playing outside or on a walk I spurt out, "Where's Eden?" Only to hear her giggly reply from right in front of or behind me, "I'm here silly Mommy, you don't see me."

Well, you get two pics this week because I couldn't decide which one to post... it was all or nothing I guess, lol.

This is a picture (above) of my mom sanctuary. In case you don't remember it looks like this in the Spring and it is usually alive with birds and squirrels. Nowadays it goes unused by anyone... feathered or not.

The other day it actually stopped snowing for about five minutes. I was suffering from a bit of cabin fever so I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and take Flip for a stroll. She is the little black dot with a tail in between all those snow laden trees.

Now, I realize that some of you would relish such days of languid bliss without the hum of power and the seclusion that comes from the phones being out. No doubt you could wax poetic for hours about the beauty and peace and stillness. However, there is no stillness when you are trapped in a 1500 square foot house with four kids 7 and under and nothing to entertain but the flicker of a candle.

Playing pioneer days grows tiresome, little bodies are not equipped for snow drifts, kiddles are bouncing off the walls, eyes sting from reading aloud, board games have become bored games, stinkiness sets in, and Mommy just longs for Elmo to take over if even just for twenty minutes so I can put my feet up... or even go to the bathroom.

AHHHHHhhhhhhh... I feel better. I just needed to get that off my chest. I really am making the best of it, and I don't mean to whine... ok, yes I do, but I know all of you 'been there done that' mommies are rooting for me. As I write we do have power, water, and phone service so we are golden.

Watch Me Wednesday

These are a few moments of fun in the snow from last week. The snow is much deeper now.

And, yes, I do live in California! Its not all fun in the sun... I live in the foothills of Northern California at around 3000 feet in elevation. We often get buried when the snow level is much higher though, due to the fact that we are in a saddled between two high mountains. In essence we live in a snow drift. :-p

The kids don't seem to mind though.

Hmmmm . . . would I happen to be the poetic waxer? OF COURSE!!! I am ENCHANTED by your winsome video record of snow-days supreme. What's not to love about all that fun and frolick -- Laundry? Frozen toes? Kids who will surely fight over the colors of sleds? More laundry? Tub rings from all the "clean" snow play?

I'm rootin' for you, my precious friend. I just happen to prefer iambic pentameter now, free verse later, and joyful phrasing always.

(Is it the last monday of the month yet? I could sure use a gab session over some tea? How 'bout you?)

: D Happy Snow Days!

Well, I think I would truly enjoy some snow..something that we definitely do not get here!! But the thought of 4 kids 7 and under would sort of freak me out!

Blessings on you!!!

Your wordful is awesome....pretty. But only in pictures. I lived too long in the snowy climes now I'm way south in the subtropics and loving it. No snow here. LOL

My Wordful is all about the fascination of toilet water....to 'kids'. Come by if you can find some time today, won't you? Happy Wednesday.

your 3rd little beauty is just like my 3rd guy!! He loved playing board games by himself!! He could always entertain himself and would sometimes fall off my radar because if it. even as a teenager, now, it is the same!!!

beautiful pictures of the snow! but I have to admit that I am glad I am not there..lived too many years in the snow and am now enjoying not having it! :)

the videos are GREAT!!! what fun!

I've missed you! How lame is that? And how long does it take you to upload those videos? I've been trying to upload one of Popcorn and it's been over 30 minutes, and it's still not done! Frustration! Of course, my petty frustration is nothing compared to snow bound with no power! I'm through whining now!

I am so glad to hear you have power and water again! We went 5 days once without anything and the temp dropped to zero. We drug our beds out to the living room where the wood stove is to stay warm. It's fun for awhile, but I'd be just fine if it didn't happen again LOL

Love the videos! Takes me back to when I was shooting videos (on a huge camera) of my own little ones playing in the snow and acting silly. Thanks for the memories.

Also, beautiful snow pictures - lovely...and very hard to believe they are taken in California!

The trials of being 'snowed in' will soon become treasured memories.

I think I would have had a bigger "rant" if I was couped up with 4 kids under seven. You are doing really well. Loved the videos.
Your snow is lovely! We got a little on Friday at the 1200 ft. level. Doesn't happen very often.

Spring is coming soon!

A quiet child is trouble. You never know what they are up to. Great photos.

Oh, I am going to wax poetic.

That shot of the trees and the trail... looks like the "Santa Claus is coming to town" video when Santa Marries under the trees.

ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR! I felt at peace just LOOKING AT IT!

aND YOUR PORCH! Spring or Winter... lovely, lovely!

Love the spoon and the adorable child behind it! I bet it does a great job of aerating the batters!

Spoon-licking is an Olympic sport in our house. Wait - it's probably more accurate to say that getting to the spoon first is the sport!

Hang in there, my friend. Shouldn't be too long before the snow melts and you can enjoy your mommy sanctuary again. And then you can read my blog and feel sorry for me, stuck indoors with my kids during the 110+ degree heat! :)

Enchanting post! The combination of motherhood, winter that goes on forever and the silence of doing-nothing appliances. A neat slice of life!

I love that name so much! Eden! Very pretty.

Ummmmm, the snow is making me sick kind of. I need it to be ALL gone ASAP!

Hope your week is happy with your little tribe!

That is quite the spoon you have! LOL

You have earned the right to go wonkers if you want to after being couped up and with no electricity! I've been there, done that and I can attest to the fact that it is not as fun as Little House On The Prairie made it appear. Thankfully most of our snow is gone now, however it IS still February, so I'm sure we'll get more.
