So Mama Kat is the hostess with the mostest for Writer's Workshop, where you pick a prompt and write and share. I chose ...choose... have chosen ??? BLARG! I picked #4.

One thing I love to do with my spare brain power (albeit in low amounts) is create new words to common songs so they fit my life. I do it for my kids, inserting their names and characteristics when I can. It always makes them laugh. Often, I create new lyrics for my own pleasure as sort of a stress relief. Because even though my brain is continuously sucked dry by the activities of the day there are still those little voices that are never quieted. This one entered (and exited) my mind on September 25, 2007. The situation was not as dire as some of the words would lead you to believe but I think every Mommy of young children can relate.

A Housewife's Song

Sung to the tune of I Can See Clearly Now

I can see dust now the blinds are drawn.
I can see little hand prints everywhere.
Gone are the clean panes, the stains have come.

Its gonna be a long, hard working day.

I can see pet hair all over the floor.
I'd use the vacuum but it don't work no more.
Cobwebs are hanging from everywhere.

Its gonna be a long, hard working day.

Look all around there's nothing but clothes to fold.
Look under the bed there's dust bunnies to scold.....

The sink is full again and I have no soap.
The cupboards empty and there is no hope,
Cuz there's sticky kids runnin' everywhere.

Its gonna be a long, hard working day.
Its gonna be a long (long), hard (hard) working day.

Maybe it'll be sung for the next "I See What You're Saying" :-0

Maybe not ;-)

I am constantly singing and humming songs in my head. My husband says that 80% of the time I am talking and the rest I am either humming or singing.

I should write down some of my 'songs.' Although I don't know if I would call them that seeing how adorable yours was. Great post!

While I love your song "makeover", I have a son that used to do ruin every song I liked! ( He was a teenager, what can I say?) Every time we were in the car he would sabotage my music...at the top of his lungs! Paybacks can be fun though...he now has 3 kids of his own that mess with him! It makes a Grammys heart swell with pride! ;-)

I have been reading around - after the song, I kinda felt I had to & you rock! I love when I drop by a place & I get permagrin.

I would love to hear you sing that one! I'm not the song maker-upper in our house, that's the hub's job.

I'll be back!

Cute song! I do this all the time too, especially when I am trying to have a good attitude but I am really irritated!
Oh, BTW, I Can See Clearly Now will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day!

Now I have that song in my head... thanks! Hee hee.

Thanks for your comment too! Will will be fine... I just have to make sure he remembers that the truth is always the best way... even though others don't follow the same rules of life. That Ray is a coach and is supposed to be a mentor and role model.

I'm with Tabi, I think you should do a video of you rocking out to your song. You never know... you could be the next American [Mom] Idol.

I love this new song. I may start singing it. We change words to songs all the time to sing to our kids for teasing or motivation, but I never make words for the whole song.

Wow - I guess I'm not the only one who does this!

I particularly like when people sing the wrong lyrics to songs, even though they think they're right.

Case in point - "My anus is the center hole," instead of the correct lyrics "My angel is the centerfold."

Oh my gosh my MOM did this to us all the time growing up!! And I wouldn't feel right if I didn't pass down that lovely memory to my kids as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

But you are WAY better at it!! That song is too funny!
