Day Glow Donuts, H1N1, ABCs, and Obama

Let me just start by saying that I was being sarcastic in my previous post when I asked, "Don't those day glow donuts look gooooood?"

I know its odd to find me being a bit sarcastic (ahem) but its the truth.

As I mentioned to a friend (on her blog) I prefer my food in natural earth tones... like chocolate brown.

Warning:
I actually express a political opinion in this post which is unusual for me. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Please, don't hate me. ;-)

So I was watching the news (which I like to call "Information I Was Better Off NOT Knowing"...see, not a bit of sarcasm here) and it turns out that the high school not even 15 minutes (which I attended back in the day) from my house has about 300 students out sick with H1N1 (swine flu). But, as the news reporter stated, there is no need to panic. SERIOUSLY!!!!! 300 students (70% confirmed by the way) are out with a pandemic flu in my very small emo goth community and I should not PANIC! I guess we wouldn't want healthy students to stay home and cause the school to lose even more money. If they are gonna stay home they would rather they already HAVE the flu! Jeewillikers. Just be sure to wash your hands after you visit my blog. Thats all I'm saying.

The reporter then states that no one has been hospitalized in the area due to this flu. Oh thank you, that is such a comfort. GOLLY! See no reason to take any precautions when 1 out of 6 of high school's students are sick. Excuse me while I lick this door handle because obviously there is no need to panic.

Have I mentioned that I am involved with a high school ministry that is made up of about 50-80 students who attend the infected campus. These kids are not just going from school to home with bags over their heads!

*DEEEEEP breath* Aaaaaaand... moving on.

Did you know that Facebook has memes too? Wow! They are pretty much the same ones that circulate here... go figure. You've seen one questionnaire you've seen them all. This one was called The ABCs Of Me. It is a little self absorbed but when I am old and I am reading this again off of my memory chip implant I know it will make me smile at how self absorbed and NOT sarcastic I was.

A - Age: 33, I think, *doing the math*, Yep 33.

B - Bed size: Most nights, too small.

C - Chore you hate: Are there supposed to be some I like?

E - Essential start your day item: More sleep.

F - Favorite color(s): Blues (and chocolate brown).

G - Gold or Silver: Don't wear much jewelry but when I do I prefer silver.

Z - Zoo favorite: Any of the animals I don't get to see in the woods around my house on a daily basis. Like hippos. Hippos are cool! I don't see them around here much. And I like the giraffes.

So there you have it. Next time I do this one hopefully the answers will have changed. I don't want to be stuck in a rut.

Hmmmm....

Right now I am wondering how many of you made it through the whole alphabet and are still with me in my random, late night, semi panicked, half asleep, laundry avoiding state?

Now, whats this I hear about Obama sending out a back to school address to students to be shown in the class room? Couldn't it just be aired prime time so students and parents could watch it together? Have any other presidents attempted to do this? Doesn't he know that he would be considered WAY
cooler if he just posted it on U toob and it was found by accident?

I'm just sayin'.

I completely support the president's desire to encourage youngsters to do their best and perhaps it should even become a presidential tradition. However, my home school curriculum will not include my children writing letters to themselves on what they can do to help the president or what the president wants them to do. I'm all for respecting the leader of the free world but I will not follow blindly, and prayerfully neither will my children be required too.

Hopefully he will at least remind them to wash their hands.

I think the swine flu will hit hard, however, during flu season so does the regular "flu"....it will be interesting to watch how this all pans out!
I am weary on the whole vaccine thing too!

I am not going to even get started with that education address....

I loved the ABC meme; so glad your sense of humor is still intact, no matter if you don't get a lot of sleep.

wow 300 kids out with the swine flu; I don't know, sounds epidemic to me. I think people aren't taking this thing (swine flu) seriously, but then again, some are taken it to extremes. was talking to a lady at the store a couple weeks ago (mind you, she started talking to us when we were down the canned food aisle looking for canned foods to donate to church for their rescue mission) and she starts talking about stock piling up food because if the swine flu becomes a massive epidemic, grocery stores will be closed, etc. Her cart was full of pasta, canned goods, rice, etc. She went on to say that she continues to check the CDC's web site for updates and she's bringing enough food for her daughter and her family because she knows they'll have to come and live with her because everything will be closed and her daughter won't get to work. etc. etc. etc. She was a touch paranoid, but is she??? (we bought an extra case of water last week, just in case.....and are thinking of other things to have around)

anyway, sorry, wasn't sure where that came from, LOL

I briefly heard the thing about Mr. Obama and the letter thingy with kids but it went in one ear and out the other; my kids are grown and out of school and don't have young ones around that it may/may not impact. I tend to not listen to too much he says, its better that way LOL

after I post this comment, I'm going to get the Lysol and disinfect my keyboard, mouse, and monitor :)

stay well!!!!!

No joke...our church has been told to not shake hands...bump elbows...and they used hand sanitizer before communion too! HAHAHA! It's a small church...but at least they care, right?? We have a friend who works with a well known drug co. that says that this vaccine won't come out nearly in time. SO, yeah, don't panic or anything (please note sarcasm!). So enjoyed your post...and loved your cookie...I too thought it tasted a bit socialistic. Ewwwwww!

I am laughing out loud reading this:

"Excuse me while I lick this door handle because obviously there is no need to panic."

and

"Be sure to wash your hands," after reading my blog.

You crack me up. Seriously.

And I agree about the video asking our kids to "serve the president." Sheesh.

Great post and yep Obama speaking to the kids has all the smacking of little berets on their heads. Next they will learn to salute and click their heels. Just saying.

Agreed, agreed. WASH YOUR HANDS PEOPLE!

And the broadcast to the schools--why not show it so kids AND parents can watch together and discuss it? I think the Prez needs to look up the word transparency in the dictionary. Everything he and his administration does seems very opaque to me.

Great ABC meme, I might have to give that a go one of these days.

That is scary about the swine flu. I still don't quite know what to make of this particular illness, they are making big news out of it and yet the death rate is way lower than normal flu. I wish there was more rational information about it instead of all the wild hysteria.

OK now I am going to have one little gripe - ah hem, please, please, please don't refer to the President of the US as the leader of the free world because he is not. He is the elected leader of the US only, all other countries have their own leaders. OK I got that off my chest! :)

Becky, why do you leave us so hungry for more, and then take an eternity to post again...You are so funny, that I just about spewed coffee all over my monitor, and you know how precious coffee is to me...Now, excuse me, but I'm off to wash my hands...

Oh my gosh : ) I am 33 too.

I love that the President wanted to talk to our students. I think it is GREAT that he wants to encourage everyone to do their best. It doesn't seem like socialism to me, but what do I know? I used to think I was conservative, in fact, I still think I am, but I honestly could care LESS who wants to tell our kids to do their best and stay in school. Unless it was Hitler, if Hitler wanted to talk to the kids I might have an issue with that. Good thing he is dead : ).

Maybe I am not conservative, I don't know, it's just that I work with so many kids that NEED to hear grown ups, ALL KINDS OF GROWN ups tell them to do the right thing and stay in school and work hard.

Thanks for loving me despite my SEVERE issues : ) Love, 33 year old, somewhat conservative, DEFINITELY NOT A FULL QUIVER girl, NOT socialist, Becky : )
